Our Activities

WHAT WE DO

New members are introduced at our monthly coffee group where they can meet existing members and learn about the many interest groups available. If you are unable to attend a coffee, other arrangements can be made to introduce you to our club.

Our activities allow members to get together while doing something they enjoy. Don’t see your passion or hobby?  Start a new one with us! Outings can range from scenic outdoor strolls, cultural experiences, volunteer opportunities, casual lunches, or dinner and wine tastings. Groups vary in size and meet in the day or evening, monthly or weekly.  Activities are based on members’ talents, wishes and the opportunities which exist within the city and throughout the surrounding countryside.

Some activities include spouses, and from time to time we host special events where the entire membership comes together. If you would like to come to an activity, you simply phone or email the convenor and let them know you’d like to attend.  Some outings have a fee associated with them but most are come as you are and ready to enjoy.  It is important to contact the convenor of that group in order to keep a spot open for you by the deadline.  Here is a listing of our activities:

More About Our Activities

Book Club

Join us each month for an in depth discussion and thought provoking look at books from local and international authors.  We have a list of prescribed books already in place and will read and discuss one per month.

We meet once a month, on Wednesday with discussion beginning at 10:30. Locations for this group vary from month to month but are usually accessible by the TTC.

Bridge

Please come and join us for bridge on the last Friday afternoon of the month. You must know how to play the game and the basic conventions. If you are interested in learning how to play bridge our convenor will be happy to give you suggestions on where to learn. We usually begin at 1:00pm and light refreshments are served.

Cafe au Lait

Canasta

If you enjoy cards and lively company, come spend an afternoon with us. We play the American version of Hand and Foot Canasta, which uses five decks of cards. It is a very easy game to learn. We have new players all the time, no experience needed just come and have fun! We have printed rules and cheat sheets available for scoring too. If you are looking for something social, new and easy, please join us.

Coin de Lecture

This low key group meets once a month over a potluck lunch to discuss, in French, a novel that the group has chosen to read. We usually read books of three hundred pages or less and it is not necessary to speak flawless French but simply to be able to understand the book and to converse in French. Our group meets jointly with the book group from Toronto Accueil. We look forward to conversing in Canada’s second language.

Coffee House

Every month from Toronto’s array of independent coffeeshops, we search out a spot to try. It’s a chance to gather informally, support small local businesses, and find new areas to explore.  This a great way to casually meet friends and have a chat as the day begins.

Days for Girls

Days for Girls is an organization committed to providing washable menstrual kits for girls in developing countries. Our team meets once a month to cut, sew and assemble kit components.

Discovery Walk & Talk

Every month we walk to a different part of Toronto exploring and chatting together for approximately two hours. Whether we choose a trail, park or neighbourhood, this group is all about the camaraderie and then the exercise.  Nothing gets the heart pumping better than nice conversation and movement in and around our lovely city.

English Conversation & Discussions

If you would you like to improve your level of English conversation and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon conversing in a cozy coffee house, then this is the group for you. You will not only improve your grammar and vocabulary, but also try to correct your mistakes and help you better express your ideas or feelings to sound more natural for this part of the world. There are two group levels, one for members with beginner-intermediate language skills and the other for more advanced speakers. Each group meets separately once a month in midtown very close to a subway station. Dates and details of our meetings are sent in advance each month by email. This is a great way to get some English speaking immersion and make new friends.

Flicks Chicks

We have a fabulous community of arts and cinema here in Toronto.  Each month when available, we arrange for a specific documentary film and meet in the lobby of the Hot Docs Cinema. You are responsible for purchasing your ticket online or in person at the box office. And if you’re available, we often meet for a meal before or after the film.

Golf

Weekly golf runs through the spring, summer and fall until the course closes for the winter. We play every Thursday morning. Golf usually takes around two hours and afterwards we meet at the clubhouse for a quick and inexpensive lunch. For more information on the Golf Club, go to www.flemingdonparkgolfclub.com

MahJongg

The Mah Jongg group meets every Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. but you don’t have to commit for every Monday to join. We are a “play when you can” group. Mah Jongg is an ancient Chinese game that uses tiles instead of cards, and we’ll teach you how to play the American version if you are new to the game. The hostess provides tea and coffee and everything you need to play. Come join this ancient strategy game!
